In 2020, Robert K. Elder launched three new apps for the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists in the Apple store, Google Play and Amazon / Kindle.

He also revamped the company's advertising strategy and helped roll out the Bulletin's first virtual reality project about its famed Doomsday Clock.

Personalized Newsletters and Crain’s National Network

From 2015 t0 2017, Elder served as the Executive Director of Digital Product Development & Innovation at Crain Communications.

He expanded Crain’s reach into 32 new markets, served as brand ambassador and assembled the team's editorial staff. Under the banner “Business News Just Got Personal,” Elder oversaw the development of this new, personalized newsletter that used artificial intelligence to adapt to each reader's interest. He also founded the award-winning column “If I Knew Then...” and guided the brands’ product evolution.

Podcasts

Elder has created and produced podcasts for the Chicago Tribune, Chicago-Sun Times and the Crain Communications. He also served as the executive producer (and co-host) of Crain’s award-winning “HR Confidential” with Heather Krentler.

In 2014, he created a podcast network for the Chicago Sun-Times and hosted his own show, "The Big Questions," for which he interviewed comedians such as Ron Funches and Ralphie May, authors such as Scott Turow and Elizabeth Berg, and musicians such as Jim Peterik and The Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan.
